Pediatric Intensive Care Chapter & Inauguration of IAP at KMCH


To improve the quality of care, to save life of sick children and also fill the lacunae of separate ICU for children in most of the hospitals in and around Coimbatore city, a separate dedicated ICU called as 'Paediatric intensive care unit (PICU)' which has been functioning for the last 26 years. 

Pediatric department in KMCH offers a wide range of high quality health care services for the age group of 0-18 years. PICU at KMCH is a 9 bedded unit providing tertiary care of high quality for critically ill children with complex medical and surgical conditions. 




KMCH has now planned to share the knowledge and advancements with all the Pediatricians' and Pediatric sub-specialists within and outside the city through continuing medical education programme titled as 'South zone CME on Pediatric Intensive care chapter'. 




The function was inaugurated by Dr.Thavamani Palaniswami, Vice Chairman, KMCH by lighting the kuthuvilaku. Dr.K.Rajendran, President, IAP, Coimbatore Chapter welcomed the gathering. Dr.Nalla G Palaniswami, Chairman, KMCH presided over the function. Dr Vishram Buche, Chairman, IAP, PIC Chapter inaugurated the IAP – Pediatric Intensive Care Chapter, Coimbatore by opening the plague. Dr B.P.Karunakara, Chairman (Elect), IAP, PIC Chapter and Dr Sanjay Ghorpade, National Secretary, IAP, PIC Chapter were the Chief Guest of the function.

Dr. Nalla G.Palanisamy in his presidential address shared that, 15 years ago, two premature babies were admitted for treatment at their hospital but they referred them to Bangalore for further treatment. Since the, he had been scrutinizing and visiting many Paediatric Care Centres across the world. He gained confidence that international class treatment can be provided in India too. He appreciated the Pediatric team in KMCH, for their dedication and tireless efforts to serve the little ones. He revealed that diagnosis and promptness are the crucial elements in paediatrics treatment.



Dr S Thirumalai Kolunthu, President (Elect), IAP, TN given the keynote address. Dr A Jayavardhana, Secretary, IAP, Coimbatore Chapter concluded with vote of thanks. About 300 Pediatrician participated in this CME to gain more knowledge about Pediatric Critical care.
