Bengaluru Mayor Elections: Three-Time Congress Corporator poised to win

People of Bengaluru will vote today to elect their new mayor, who they hope, will help improve city's infrastructure including its bad roads and infamous lakes.

The elections today will also decide the deputy mayor and chairpersons for 12 standing committees.

In the current 198 members municipal council of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, the BJP has 127 members followed by Congress' 112, which has the ruling alliance with regional party JD(S) with 23 members.

269 people who will vote to elect the new mayor include members of the municipal council, the legislative council, the legislative assembly, and lawmakers; a candidate requires 135 votes to secure the position.

According to the reservation roaster, this time, the mayor post is reserved for the backward minority while the deputy mayor post is reserved for the general category.

The JD(S) and Congress alliance are likely to continue this year as well and the front runner for mayor's post is said to be Congress corporator G Padmavathi from Prakash Nagar ward.

JD(S) Corporator Anand from Radakrishna ward is the front runner for deputy mayor's post, which might change if JD(S) manages to negotiate the mayor's post in the pre-election with alliance partner Congress.

The election will take place around 11:30am and the results will be out by 1pm.
