Nine Punjab pilgrims killed, 12 injured in Haryana road mishap

Nine pilgrims were killed and another 12 injured after the pick-up vehicle carrying them collided with two heavy vehicles in Sainiwas village of Siwani town of Bhiwani district early Friday morning.

The deceased, including one woman, were the residents of Machhiwara in Punjab’s Ludhiana district. They were returning from Gogamedi, which is a village of religious importance in Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan.

Police said the pick-up vehicle got sandwiched between two heavy vehicles after it rammed into a truck moving ahead of them, and then was hit by another vehicle from behind. The injured were rushed to the Bhiwani civil hospital. They include five women and seven men.

Recently, on September 13, seven Punjabi pilgrims were killed while 53 were injured when two trucks carrying pilgrims for the same religious destination had met with an accident in Sirsa district of Haryana.
