Gujarat police in Udaipur to arrest Hardik Patel

A team of Gujarat police Saturday came to arrest Patidar reservation agitation leader Hardik Patel in connection with a case filed against him for holding a public meeting a year ago without allegedly seeking adequate official permission.

The police team intimated Pratap Nagar police station of Udaipur and went to Patel’s temporary residence here. Patel, however, later said the Gujarat police team met him at his temporary residence and returned.

“If required, I will go to Gujarat with police as per legal procedure,” he said.

A case was filed against him for holding a public meeting organised by his Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) at Tenpur town on September 22, 2015.

The Gujarat police had on September 25 arrested a close associate of Patel on the same charges. The Patel quota agitation leader, who was earlier arrested in cases of sedition and violence pertaining to Patidar quota stir last year, was recently released from a jail in Surat after nine months of confinement.

He is staying in Udaipur since July 17 after Gujarat High Court granted him bail on condition that he will stay out of the state for a period of six months.
