Appoint additional expert in 3 months: High Court

The Madras high court has given the central government three months to appoint an additional expert member for the south zone bench of National Green Tribunal (NGT) on regular basis.

It was brought to the notice that though there were two benches presided over by two former judges of the high court, there was only one expert member to constitute a bench. This expert member shortage has been making the creation of roster very difficult, a PIL filed by an advocate said.

At present, it has two judicial members Justice P Jyothimani and Justice M S Nambiar and one expert member P S Rao. The previous expert member Dr Nagendiran resigned a few months ago. Due to non-appointment of a new member, the bench has been witnessing pile up of cases, he said.
