Guru Nanak Gurpurab better known as Guru Nanak's Prakash Utsav or Guru Nanak Jayanti, is a festival that celebrates the birthday of Guru Nanak who is the first Sikh Guru. In Coimbatore too several Punjabi families came together to celebrate this day.

At the Gurudwara Singh Sabha which is the Holy temple of the Sikhs several members of the Punjabi community participated in the celebrations. Kirtans singing of Holy songs in praise of their gurus and langar, food served to visitors without discriminating their religion, faith or background marked Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrations in our city.

Speaking to SimpliCity head priest of the Coimbatore Gurudwara Singh Sabha said “The most famous teachings attributed to Guru Nanak are that there is only one God and that all human beings can have direct access to God with no need of rituals or priests. His most radical social teachings denounced the caste system and taught that everyone is equal regardless of caste, creed or gender.” Joginder Singh Joga said. He also shared that till this noon more than 400 devotees attended the Gurudwara Singh Sabha that is located on the VVC Layout.
