Students paint their imagination with colours

The Thiruchitrambalam Hall at Avinashilingam University was the place to be in for the children in the city on Sunday morning.

Around 400 young minds expressed their creative best in the hall that was in complete silence.

The young ones – 206 students in junior category from classes four, five and six, and 208 in senior category from classes seven, eight and nine – spoke through paint brushes, pencils, and crayon sticks at The Hindu Young World Painting Contest that had Thyrocare as the title sponsor, NSR Bakers and Sweets as the snacks partner, Hindusthan Coco-Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd. as the water partner, Black Thunder as regional sponsor and the University as the venue partner.

The juniors had the choice to paint on ‘fun in the sun’ or ‘outside my window’ or ‘food fair’.

The seniors had ‘a scene in the kitchen’ or ‘my hometown railway station’ or ‘emotions’ in the two-hour event that started at 9.30 a.m.

At the end of two hours, judges W. Selvakumar, D. Gokulam Vijay, and P. Rajkumar judged M.K. Haramba Gowri (Class V, Bharathi Matriculation Higher Secondary School) as the first prize winner, P. Sarvesh (Class V, Lisieux Matriculation Hr. Sec. School) as the second prize winner and Shri Nikesh J. Ray (Class V, Stanes Anglo India Hr. Sec. School) as the third prize winner in the junior category.

And, they judged Mehak Khemka (Class IX, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan) as the first prize winner, S. Keerthivasan (Class VIII, Bharathi Matriculation Hr. Sec. School) as the second prize winner and S.K. Kiran Sara (Class VII, C.S. Academy, Erode) as the third prize winner in the ‘seniors’ category.

The junior consolation prize winners are - Shyam Prasath of G.K.D. Matriculation Hr. Sec. School, K. Abhilash of Lisieux Mat. Hr. Sec. School, M. Tarika of Vidhya Nikethan Public School, V. Nethra of Adwaith G.N.S. Mat. Hr. Sec. School, V.Aishvarya of Air Force School, A. Akshathaa of SSVM School, Mettupalayam, and V. Aishwaria of S.B.O.A. Mat. Hr. Sec. School.

The senior consolation prize winners – E.N. Mithilesh of Bharathi Matric Hr. Sec. School, Bhavika Dugar of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kritthik R. of Sri Ramakrishna Mat. Hr. Sec. School, S. Ashwanth of Riverside Public School, Kothagiri, Pavithra P.D. of G.K.D. Mat. Hr. Sec. School, Reem Jahangeer of St. Joseph’s Mat. Hr. Sec. School, and Dharun P. of VCV Shishu Vidyodaya Mat. Hr. Sec. School.

A. Rathinaswamy, Director, Thyrocare, presented the awards to the juniors and Meenakumari Mohan, paediatrician, to the seniors.
