Identification parade held for Dalit youth’s murder

Police today conducted an identification parade in the Central Jail here for Kausalya, the widow of slain Dalit youth Shankar. He was hacked to death in Udumalpet a week ago, in what is said to be a honour killing.

Kausalya, undergoing treatment in the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, was taken to the jail this morning, where the five accused, arrested in connection with the killing, were lodged, police said.

The 19-year old Kausalya was hardly inches away when the gang brutally hacked her husband on March 13. She survived the attack with serious injuries. She had told the investigating agency that though she did not know the gangsters she would be able to identify them.

She had recorded her statement before the Judicial Magistrate court in Palladam in Tirupur district yesterday, even as her father Chinnasamy, who had surrendered immediately after the incident, was taken into police custody for seven days for questioning.
