City youth robbed of cash and mobile phone at knife-point

The police are on the lookout for two unidentified persons who allegedly threatened a youth with a knife and robbed him of Rs.2,000 cash and a mobile phone near Podanur Railway Station in Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: Abhimani (37) who hails from Dharmapuri district resides in the SIDCO area of Coimbatore and works in a private company in the same area.

When Abhimani was walking on the flyover near Podanur railway station on Tuesday night, two youth reportedly followed him on a two-wheeler. They stopped him and requested if they could make a phone call urgently.

Believing this to be true, an unsuspecting Abhimani gave the cell phone to the youth. After taking the mobile phone, the youth suddenly threatened him with a hidden knife and demanded money.

Shocked by the turn of events, Abhimani tried to escape saying that he did not have any money. Then the young men allegedly caught hold of Abhimani and snatched Rs 2,000 cash from him and fled the spot.

Following this, Abhimani lodged a complaint with the Podanur police station in connection with the wayside robbery. On the basis of his complaint, the police registered a case.

CCTV footage from the area is being used to hunt down the two suspects.
