Truck driver threatened and extorted money in Coimbatore - Police searching the miscreants

Krishnan Unni, an Erode district collector, sent the things at the camp office to Thiruvananthapuram by private travel. In a shocking incident, a truck driver was robbed of Rs 10,000 cash while on his way to the Neelambur-Madukkarai highway in Coimbatore.

Coimbatore: Muthukrishnan (30), son of Arumugam, hails from Pattabhiram in Chennai. He works as an Eicher truck driver in a private travel company in Chennai.

Krishnan Unni, the district collector in Erode, was recently transferred to Chennai. On Saturday, he sent his goods from the collector's camp office in Erode through private travels to his hometown of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.

Muthukrishnan left on the Salem-Cochin road carrying the goods. On Saturday midnight, when they came near Kanjikonapalayam section on the Coimbatore Neelambur-Madukkarai highway, three unidentified persons, who came on a two-wheeler, said that the rear wheel of the Eicher truck had been punctured.

Muthukrishnan, the driver, got down and went to see. The three miscreants grabbed Muthukrishnan, bound his hand with a rope, and threatened him with money. They then stole Rs 10,000 from the truck's box and fled.

Following this, Muthukrishnan, with the help of his fellow motorists, removed the ropes and called the police emergency number 100 and informed them. A police team led by Podanur Crime Branch Sub-Inspector Kathirvel reached the spot, conducted an inspection. The police have registered a case in connection with the incident and are on the lookout for the absconding miscreants.
