Coimbatore Corporation Engineer Caught with Unaccounted Cash of Rs 1.02 Lakh

Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau raids Coimbatore Corporation engineer's office, seizes Rs 1.02 lakh unaccounted cash. The raid was conducted following complaints of bribery from contractors and public.

Coimbatore: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) conducted a surprise raid on the office of a Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation engineer and seized unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 1.02 lakh. The raid took place on September 10 following complaints of bribery against the engineer.

Vimalraj (42), a junior engineer working in the Central Zone Engineering Division of Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation, was the target of the raid. He oversees various projects, including work at VOC Park and other locations in the city. His administrative office is located within the VOC Park office complex.

The VACB received complaints that Vimalraj was collecting money from contractors and the public who visited his office. Acting on these complaints, a team led by Additional Deputy Superintendent Divya and Inspector Ezhilarasi conducted the surprise check at Vimalraj's office.

During the inspection, the team searched Vimalraj's laptop bag and discovered Rs 1.02 lakh in cash, which was unaccounted for. The VACB officials seized the money and have registered a case against the engineer. Further investigation is underway to determine the source of the unaccounted cash and the extent of the alleged bribery activities.

This incident has raised concerns about corruption within the municipal corporation and highlights the importance of vigilance in public offices. The VACB's swift action in response to public complaints demonstrates the authorities' commitment to combating corruption at various levels of local government.
