Run for a Drug-Free Coimbatore: District Police Invite Public to Join Marathon

With an aim to promote a drug-free society, the Coimbatore District Police will host Marathon 2026 on August 8 under the theme “Run for a Cause, Run for a Drug-Free Coimbatore.” The event will also feature cash prizes worth ₹1 lakh across various categories to encourage enthusiastic participation.

Coimbatore: As part of its ongoing anti-drug awareness campaign, the Coimbatore District Police will organise Marathon 2026 on August 8 (Saturday) under the theme “Run for a Cause, Run for a Drug-Free Coimbatore.”

Spearheaded by Pavan K. Reddy, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore District, the event aims to encourage community participation in the fight against narcotic drugs while promoting a healthy and responsible lifestyle.

The marathon, carrying the slogan “Oru Mudivin Thodakkam – Run Until – Every Finish is a New Beginning,” will begin at 5 a.m. and feature a 5-km Open Run for participants of all age groups and a 2-km Run for children below the age of 10 years. Participation is free, enabling people from all sections of society to take part in the awareness initiative.

To encourage wider participation, the District Police has announced cash prizes worth ₹1 lakh across various categories. Every finisher will also receive a Finisher’s Certificate in recognition of their participation in the anti-drug campaign.

The District Police said the marathon is intended to reinforce the message that tackling substance abuse is a shared social responsibility and has invited citizens, educational institutions, industries, voluntary organisations and families to participate in large numbers and support the vision of a Drug-Free Coimbatore.
