Coimbatore Corporation Property Tax Collection Surges by Rs 38.43 Crore

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Corporation is intensively conducting revenue collection operations for the second half of the financial year 2026-27, targeting arrears in property tax, vacant land tax, professional tax, water charges, underground drainage charges, and shop rent.

In property tax, which is the corporation's primary revenue source, the civic body has collected 10.38% of arrear demand and 33.74% of current demand in the ongoing 2026-27 financial year. On the same date last year (10.08.2026), total property tax collection stood at ₹161.55 crore. Currently, the collection has reached ₹199.98 crore.

This represents an additional collection of ₹38.43 crore compared to last year, marking a significant 23.8% year-on-year growth. This substantial increase reflects the success of the corporation's aggressive tax collection initiatives and improved compliance mechanisms.

To achieve the 100% revenue collection target before the end of the current 2026-27 financial year, special tax collection camps have been organized across the city. These camps are operational on all working days except government holidays, providing enhanced convenience to taxpayers.

The corporation has deployed additional staff and resources at these special camps to facilitate hassle-free tax payment. Multiple payment options, including online platforms and traditional counter services, are being offered to encourage prompt compliance.

Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja IAS has appealed to citizens to immediately pay their pending taxes to the corporation and extend their cooperation towards the city's development initiatives. He emphasized that timely tax payment is crucial for the corporation to execute infrastructure projects and welfare schemes effectively.

The increased revenue collection is expected to serve as a vital financial resource for the corporation's infrastructure development and public welfare programs. The funds will be utilized for road improvements, water supply enhancement, sanitation facilities, and other civic amenities that directly benefit residents.

Officials attribute the revenue surge to better awareness campaigns, simplified payment procedures, and the proactive approach of conducting special collection camps in various zones of the city.
