Country-Made Explosive Injures Bull in Coimbatore; Man Arrested

Coimbatore: A bull sustained severe injuries after allegedly biting and triggering a country-made explosive placed in an agricultural field at Karadimadai near Perur in Coimbatore district, reportedly to hunt wild boars. A 70-year-old man from the locality was secured in connection with the incident and was subsequently remanded, police said.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. on Tuesday when Palanisamy (65), a resident of Karadimadai, was grazing his two bulls in an agricultural field in the area. According to the preliminary inquiry, one of the animals reportedly bit a country-made explosive, locally known as “Avuttukai”, causing it to explode.

The blast caused severe injuries to the bull’s mouth. On receiving information, Forest Department officials reached the spot and secured Rayan (70), a resident of the same locality, for questioning.

Preliminary inquiry revealed that Rayan had allegedly placed the explosive in a sesame field to hunt wild boars. Palanisamy had reportedly warned him against placing such explosives in the area, as cattle were regularly grazed there.

Officials also reportedly seized country-made explosives from Rayan’s residence as part of the investigation. He was secured in connection with the incident and remanded.

Further investigation into the use of country-made explosives for hunting wild boars is underway.
