16 Players Selected for Tamil Nadu U-19 Handball Team at Trials in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: Sixteen players have been selected for the Tamil Nadu Under-19 boys’ handball team following state-level selection trials conducted by the School Education Department at the Government High School in Narasimhanaickenpalayam, Coimbatore.

Around 98 students representing eight zones across Tamil Nadu participated in the trials, which were organised to identify players for the state team that will compete in the upcoming national-level handball tournament.

The selection trials were conducted under the leadership of District Inspector of Physical Education Dr. Kumaresan.

At the inaugural function, Coimbatore District Handball Association President Santhosh and Vice-President Karthik were present.

The players were assessed across various categories, including a 1,500-metre run, ball-throwing, gameplay and goalkeeping, before 16 students were shortlisted for the state team.

The selected players will undergo specialised training to prepare for the national-level handball tournament scheduled to be held in Ludhiana, Punjab, in December, where they will represent Tamil Nadu.

Government High School Headmaster Ramakrishnan inaugurated the event and addressed the participants. Physical Education Teacher Thanakumar coordinated the arrangements for the trials, with the Coimbatore District Handball Association providing support for the event.
