Rainfall was reported across several parts of the district, including the outskirts of Coimbatore. Among the outskirts, the Madukkarai - Walayar stretch received a good spell of rains, breaking the prolonged sweltering heat pattern.
Valparai, which had been receiving fairly continuous rainfall since the onset of the Southwest Monsoon, had seen a marked decline in rainfall over the past few weeks. The region, however, received moderate rainfall yesterday, with Valparai PAP recording 56 mm, Valparai Taluk 51 mm, Chinnakalar 22 mm, Cincona 19 mm and Sholayar 18 mm. According to weather experts, with weak westerly winds and the atmosphere now transitioning towards easterlies, widespread rains are expected across most districts of Interior Tamil Nadu (South, West & East), with the Delta belts also likely to see good spells.
The prediction by Tamilnadu Weatherman says the rain patterns will continue today along the regions in the Western Ghats. Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Theni, Madurai, Sivagangai, interior parts of Thoothukudi and Ramanathapuram, Dindigul, Karur, Coimbatore and adjoining areas are all in for some good rains today.
The showers have come as a welcome respite for residents in several parts of the district, particularly those who had been experiencing persistent heat in recent weeks.
At the Siruvani reservoir, 5 mm of rain was recorded at the dam and 2 mm at Adivaram. The dam's water level stood at 30.57 feet against 44.61 ft.
The rainfall has brought renewed hope for residents and farmers across the district, while the moderate showers in the Valparai hills are expected to provide some relief to the region after the recent lull in rainfall.
