Coimbatore POCSO Court Convicts Man for Harassing Minor Boy

Coimbatore: A special POCSO court in Coimbatore has sentenced a man to eight years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually harassing a minor boy at a bus stand in the city. According to the Coimbatore City Police, the incident occurred in 2025 under the jurisdiction of the RS Puram All Women Police Station (West). The boy, who had completed school and was waiting at a bus stand to return home, sat in the passenger waiting area as the bus was delayed. The accused, identified in the police release as Sedhu Mathavan, allegedly sat beside the boy and sexually harassed him. Police Inspector G. Palaniammal conducted the initial investigation, while Inspector C. Maheswari filed the final report against Sedhu Mathavan on March 2, 2025. The case was subsequently tried before the Special POCSO Court in Coimbatore. On October 6, 2026, Special POCSO Court Judge Hariharan convicted the accused and sentenced him to eight years of rigorous imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs.2,000. The prosecution was represented by Special Public Prosecutor Ramani. Senior police officials appreciated Inspector G. Palaniammal, Inspector C. Maheswari and Head Constable Piyusha Selvakumari for their work in securing the conviction.
