Coimbatore:
According to a complaint filed by Dayana, 31, a resident of Cooperative Colony in Uppilipalayam, Saravanan of Maharani Avenue along Thondamuthur Road in Vadavalli vacated his house a year ago, leaving his pet dog behind. The complaint alleged that he did not provide the animal with food or proper care thereafter.
On October 9, stray dogs in the neighbourhood reportedly attacked the dog, which died of its injuries. Dayana stated that residents informed her of the incident and she found the dog dead on reaching the spot. She subsequently recovered the body and handed it over to an animal welfare organisation.
Based on her complaint, the police registered a case against Saravanan under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11(1)(i) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. Further investigation is under way.
