Coimbatore: A 55-year-old daily-wage worker was found dead inside his rented room in Ceylon Colony, MGR Nagar, Sundarapuram, after heavy rainfall caused rainwater to flood the room while he was asleep on the night before last.
The deceased, Senthil, hailed from Thurinjipatti village of Pappireddipatti Taluk in Dharmapuri district. He had moved to Coimbatore around 10 years ago for work and had been staying in a rented room near a ration shop while working as a labourer.
According to the police, Senthil returned to his room after work and allegedly went to sleep in an inebriated state. Heavy rains on the night of October 15 caused water to gush into the room. His neighbour, Manoharan, reportedly assumed that Senthil had gone out when he heard no noise from the room and went to sleep.
The following morning, Senthil was found lying motionless inside the waterlogged room. His 31-year-old son, Rajasekar, lodged a complaint with the Sundarapuram police.
Sub-Inspector Rajesh registered a case, and the police recovered the body and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
