Coimbatore: Stepping up its enforcement against illegal hoardings and banners, the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has collected Rs 11.68 lakh in fines from violators since June this year.
According to a press release issued by the Corporation on November 1, the installation of unauthorised advertising structures and banners in public spaces has been prohibited. Such displays are often put up by commercial establishments, political organisations and event organisers to promote various programmes and activities.
The Corporation stated that these unauthorised installations obstruct pedestrians and motorists, disrupt traffic movement and cause inconvenience to the public. Poles erected along roadsides and banners placed on them also pose public health and safety concerns.
Enforcement teams operating across all five zones are monitoring such violations and taking action against those responsible. From June this year until November 1, the Corporation has collected the total fine amount from violators.
Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja has urged shop owners, commercial establishments, political organisations, event organisers and the public not to install unauthorised hoardings, banners or advertising boards on roads, near government offices or in public places.
He warned that strict action, including fines, would be taken against those violating the regulations. The Corporation will also take necessary steps to remove unauthorised publicity materials.
