Coimbatore: Raghavan (25), the remand prisoner who escaped from police custody while being escorted to Coimbatore Central Prison on Saturday, October 31, has been arrested by a special police team in the Bhavanisagar area and is being brought back to Coimbatore.
Six special teams had been formed to trace Raghavan following his escape at around 12.40 a.m. on Saturday, when four police personnel were taking him inside the prison premises for judicial remand. CCTV footage later showed him near an arterial road in Coimbatore, where he was suspected to have secured a ride.
Meanwhile, four police personnel responsible for escorting Raghavan have been placed under suspension for lapses in duty.
Raghavan, a native of Bhavani in Erode district, faces several criminal cases in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. He had earlier escaped from Karnataka police custody in June 2026 while being brought back to Coimbatore from Bengaluru following interrogation. He was traced and arrested by Annur police on October 30 and remanded in judicial custody before making his second escape outside Coimbatore Central Prison.
