Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja inspected several ongoing civic projects, including bio-mining and Sewage Treatment Plant works in Kavundampalayam, among other projects across the west and central zones, and directed officials to expedite post-road works following completion of underground drainage (UGD) works.
He first inspected Anna Nagar Market in Ward 69 on Mettupalayam Road and reviewed the ongoing UGD works beneath the Saibaba Colony flyover. He instructed officials to prioritise road-laying works and ensure that the public was not inconvenienced.
He subsequently inspected the work to remove the old inscription at the entrance of MGR Market on Mettupalayam Main Road in Ward 45 of the West Zone and replace it with a new one. He instructed the concerned officials to expedite the work.
The Commissioner also visited the bio-mining centre at Kavundampalayam in Ward 33 and reviewed the progress of the legacy waste processing project. He directed officials to accelerate the work, which involves processing approximately 91,497 tonnes of legacy waste spread across 4.2 acres at the Kavundampalayam dumpsite. The project, taken up at a cost of Rs 6.6 crore, was launched in August 2026 with new machinery installed at the site. The work is expected to take around six months to complete.
The 30-acre yard had previously received municipal solid waste from across the city before dumping operations were halted around 10 years ago. The accumulated waste was subsequently bio-capped by covering it with layers of soil and protective lining to contain leachate and minimise environmental impact. The site has remained closed to fresh dumping since then.
He also visited and inspected the Kavundampalayam Sewage Treatment Plant in Ward 33 of the West Zone and instructed the concerned officials to expedite the ongoing works.
Corporation Chief Engineer Vijayakumar, Assistant Commissioner Nirmala, Executive Engineer Jagan, Assistant Executive Engineer Savitha, Assistant Engineer Karthikeyan (in-charge), Zonal Health Officer Radhakrishnan, Health Inspector Rajendran and other Corporation officials were present during the inspections.
