Coimbatore: Coimbatore district police seized around 600 grams of ganja and 100 Tapentadol Hydrochloride tablets and arrested two persons during a special statewide narcotics enforcement drive conducted on November 4.
The one-day special operation was carried out across all 38 districts and nine police commissionerates in Tamil Nadu on the directions of Director General of Police Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal. The drive specifically targeted the illegal sale, transportation and circulation of narcotic substances, including ganja and prescription drugs sold without valid medical authorisation.
In Coimbatore district, special teams formed under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Pavan K Reddy conducted searches and surveillance at various locations. During one such operation at Kottaipalayam, within the jurisdiction of Kovilpalayam police station, personnel intercepted two men on suspicion and questioned them. A subsequent search led to the seizure of approximately 600 grams of ganja and 100 Tapentadol Hydrochloride tablets allegedly held illegally by them.
Police registered a case and arrested the accused, identified as Dharan (20), son of Vinayababu, and Vignesh (25), son of Selvakumar, both from the Kovilpalayam area. Dharan and Vignesh were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
Meanwhile, police registered another case relating to ganja allegedly kept for sale within the limits of Kinathukadavu police station as part of the same statewide operation.
Coimbatore district police said enforcement measures would continue to curb the illegal sale and circulation of narcotic substances and prohibited psychotropic drugs, warning that stringent legal action would be taken against those involved in such activities.
