The Earth Mover Owners Welfare Association in Coimbatore exposes an alleged extortion scheme involving illegal royalty collection. They petition authorities, seeking justice and transparency in their industry.
Coimbatore: In a startling revelation, the Earth Mover Owners Welfare Association in Coimbatore has filed a formal complaint at the District Collector's office, exposing an alleged extortion scheme orchestrated by individuals affiliated with SR Groups. According to the complaint, these individuals, assisted by their servants, have been coercing earth mover owners, demanding money in the name of royalty for construction-related activities.
The petitioners, including Selvam, Mariyappan, and Balamurugan from SR Group, have been intercepting trucks engaged in transporting earthwork from construction sites across Coimbatore and its suburbs. Allegedly, they have been levying exorbitant royalty charges without issuing any receipts. The petitioners claim that failure to pay these demands results in severe consequences – including confiscation of the trucks, police involvement, and legal action.
The association further contends that this extortion racket has significantly impacted the local economy, leading to inflated prices for new vehicles, heightened fuel costs, increased customs fees, and elevated spare parts prices. They argue that such activities not only tarnish the government's reputation but also disrupt the smooth functioning of various sectors.
To address this issue, the Earth Mover Owners Welfare Association has urged the authorities to overhaul the current system of royalty collection and streamline the process for issuing license slips for mining activities. They stress the importance of simplifying procedures and ensuring proper permissions are granted without succumbing to illicit demands.
In addition to filing the complaint at the District Collector's office, the petitioners have announced their intention to send copies of the petition to key figures, including the Chief Minister, the Water Resources Minister, the Coimbatore Superintendent of Police, and the Geology and Mines Department Office. This move reflects their determination to bring attention to the matter at the highest levels of government.
The concerned authorities have yet to respond to the allegations made in the petition. Meanwhile, the Earth Mover Owners Welfare Association remains steadfast in their pursuit of justice, determined to put an end to the alleged extortion activities and restore transparency in their industry.
