Water level in Thirumoorthy dam continues to decline

The water level in the Thirumoorthy dam near Udumalpet has been continuously declining due to the summer heat and deficient rainfall. Due to this, the farmers are grazing goats on the grasslands that are now visible outside the dam area.

Tirupur: As the water level in thirumoorthy dam near Udumalpet is receding, farmers are grazing goats in the grasslands in the dam area.

There is a 60 feet high Thirumoorthy Dam near Udumalpet in Tirupur district. This is the last dam in the PAP package of dams. About 3.75 lakh acres of land in Coimbatore and Tirupur districts will be irrigated.

The dam is divided into four zones and water is supplied. Apart from this, drinking water is supplied to Udumalpet town and hundreds of villages through this dam.

Now, water will be supplied to the third zone till April 20. As the water level in the Thirumoorthy dam has receded, the farmers are grazing goats on the grasslands visible outside.

In this situation, the water level in thirumoorthy dam is decreasing rapidly due to the release of water for irrigation. As a result, the rear parts of the dam look like a mound of mud. The farmers are grazing goats there.

The water level in the dam is currently at 31.56 feet. 571 cusecs of water was flowing through the kandur canal. It is to be noted that 944 cusecs of water is being released from the dam.
