A herd of wild elephants entered the Nanjundapuram residential area near Thadagam in Coimbatore at midnight, shocking the residents. The locals, with the help of forest officials, chased a herd of elephants out of the village and into the forest.



Coimbatore: The Anaikatti hills in the Western Ghats near Coimbatore are home to a significant population of wild elephants.

They come to foot hills in search of food. A herd of eight wild elephants strayed out of the forest region in Nanjundapuram village near Thadagam last night, along with the calves, and roamed the village roads. The public was shocked and contacted the forest department.



The people of the area chased away a herd of wild elephants that had been roaming inside the village with the assistance of forest officials who arrived on the scene.



Similarly, in the early hours of yesterday, a lone elephant invaded Arangasamy's garden in the Pappanayakanpalayam area.

People in the area have said that due to drought in the forest areas due to the summer heat, the entry of wild elephants into villages adjoining the forest area in search of water and food is on the rise.
