Celebration of Religious Harmony Ramadan in Coimbatore: Hindu, Muslim and Christian clergies take part

As a mark of respect to religious harmony, Hindu and Christian clergies greeted the Muslims with flowers, soft drinks and sweets and greeted them on the occasion of Ramadan in Tipu Sultan Mosque in Poo Market

Coimbatore: The festival of Ramadan is being celebrated in Coimbatore with great fervour and gaiety. Muslims around the world observe a 30-day fast and celebrate the holy month of Ramadan.

Muslims offered special prayers in mosques during the festival of Ramadan. In Coimbatore, thousands of people gathered at various places including Ukkadam, Saibaba Colony and Flower Market to offer prayers, embraced each other and exchanged love and greeted each other.

In this context, on behalf of the Multi-Religious Harmony Movement, the festival of Religious Harmony was celebrated at Tipu Sultan Mosque in Poo Market to celebrate religious harmony.

Representatives of the three religions — a Hindu seer, a Christian priest, an Islamic imam — and the office bearers of the multi-religious harmony movement and members of the organisation — greeted the participants with flowers, soft drinks and sweets.

In Coimbatore, festivals including Pongal, Deepavali, Christmas, Ramadan and Bakrid are celebrated as festivals of religious harmony with the representatives of three religions. Haji J Mohammad Rafiq, president of the Multi-Religious Harmony Movement, which is the organiser of the festival, said they had celebrated ramzan of religious harmony this year as well.

They said that they pray for all prosperity and well-being of the people so that equality and brotherhood flourish, religious harmony and peace prevail.

For the last 15 years, we have been celebrating such a festival of communal harmony. The organisers also said that the festival of Ramadan was celebrated on the basis that the mind is one, irrespective of the religions.
