Opposition Parties Announce the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance-INDIA

Opposition parties in India came together to form the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) at a two-day brainstorming session for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This is a revamped version of Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA), will have an 11-member coordination committee which will work towards deciding issues such as seat sharing and choosing a Prime Ministerial face for the front.

INDIA, or the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, is a new front announced by the opposition parties convened in Bengaluru for a two-day brainstorming session for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The newly created alliance, which is essentially a refurbished version of the Congress-led UPA, will soon have an 11-member coordination committee to deliberate on all major issues, including seat sharing and the PM's front-line face.

INDIA is an acronym for Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, which is an opposition front announced by the leaders of 26 parties to take on the BJP in next year's elections.

The name was proposed by Rahul Gandhi, the Congress party's leader, and was unanimously approved by the 26 parties at the Bengaluru summit. However, some sources said the name was suggested by TMC supremo and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, and there was much debate over the full form of the term.

The key objectives of INDIA are: 1)Defeat the BJP in the 2024 general elections, 2)Protect the Constitution of India, 3)Promote inclusive development, 4)Uphold the secular values of India.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said a committee of 11 members will be formed for coordination, and a convenor will be selected at the next opposition meeting in Mumbai. Kharge further stated that a secretariat will be established in Delhi to administer the alliance's campaign, and that various committees will be formed on separate issues. He stated that the dates for the Mumbai meeting will be revealed soon.

While Kharge evaded a direct reply on who would be the face of the new alliance, earlier in his opening remarks at the meeting, he said the Congress is not interested in power or the post of Prime Minister.

As many as 26 opposition parties are part of INDIA, including Congress, TMC, DMK, AAP, JD(U), RJD, JMM, NCP (Sharad Pawar), Shiv Sena (UBT), SP, NC, PDP, CPM, CPI, RLD, MDMK, Kongunadu Makkal Desia Katchi (KMDK), VCK, RSP, CPI-ML (Liberation), Forward Bloc, IUML, Kerala Congress (Joseph), Kerala Congress (Mani), Apna Dal (Kamerawadi), and the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK).
