CII welcomes the announcement of Semmozhi Poonga at Coimbatore

(CII) has expressed its gratitude towards the Government of Tamil Nadu for its recent announcement about the development of a Semmozhi Poonga in the Coimbatore Central Jail Grounds. It will be developed on a 45-acre land at an estimated cost of 170 crore. Apart from various kinds of flora, this park will include several installations such as a Music Garden, Sculptures, and a Multipurpose Convention Centre.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation has recently announced that it will begin work on developing a Semmozhi Poonga in its first phase on a 45-acre plot of land that is part of the unused Coimbatore Central Prison premises at a cost of 170 crore.

On June 28, the company issued a tender for the development of this park, inviting bids for a variety of works. The first phase of this work is expected to commence by the end of July or early August 2023. Apart from various kinds of flora, this park will include several installations such as a Music Garden, Sculptures, and a Multipurpose Convention Centre.

Ravi Sam, Past Chairman of the CII Tamil Nadu, stated that this idea arose from a recommendation made by the CII to the Tamil Nadu government. "CII expresses its gratitude to the Hon'ble Chief Minister and the Government of Tamil Nadu for this wonderful announcement." This will have a long-term impact on the population of this city and region, as well as its livability quotient. At this point, it is also worth noting that the government has set aside property for a cutting-edge museum in Coimbatore, which has long been a dream of the locals," Ravi Sam added.

"CII would like to continue its engagement for these projects with the Government of Tamil Nadu and provide inputs on behalf of the industry as and when requested," said Senthil Ganesh, Chairman, CII Coimbatore Zone.
