Coimbatore: Vijayakumar runs a company called Merit Infra Private Limited in Saibaba Colony, Coimbatore. Joel Emerson, CEO of the same company, also announced that the company is selling house sites in Periyanaickenpalayam, Appanayakanpatti, Pappampatti and other areas of Coimbatore.

Believing this, in 2019, the public gave money to buy a plot of land and a house. In the complaint, they have said that they will have to pay 10 per cent of the advance for claiming the plot of land first and the remaining amount will have to be paid at the time of the purchase.

Vijayakumar, who had received more than Rs 90 lakh from 26 of them, had been passing the time on the grounds that the owner of the land had not turned up and the partner had not turned up when those who had given the money went to the registration four times.

In May last year, the victims lodged a complaint with the Economic Offences Wing office in coimbatore city police commissioner's office alleging that they had taken the full amount from several others and had constructed the house halfway and put the remaining works on hold. Based on the complaint, the police conducted an investigation and arrested Vijayakumar from his house on Tuesday.

Vijayakumar and Joel Emerson and Three others, and Clement Perna Bose from Trichy, were arrested by the Coimbatore City Crime Branch for allegedly duping 16 people of Rs 78 lakh while allegedly giving money to some of the 26. They are also investigating two persons involved in the case.
