Inmate Dies in Coimbatore Central Prison, Police Investigation Underway

82-year-old Rangasamy, held in Coimbatore Central Prison since February 7 on an attempted murder charge, died following sudden vomiting and loss of consciousness on April 21.


Coimbatore: Rangasamy, an 82-year-old inmate from Namakkal district, who was detained in Coimbatore Central Prison on charges of attempted murder since February 7, passed away under distressing circumstances.




On April 19, Rangasamy suddenly started vomiting blood and lost consciousness. The prison medical team quickly administered first aid before he was rushed to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for further treatment. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Rangasamy was later transferred back to the prison's ward where he eventually succumbed to his condition on April 21.




Following his death, Race Course police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the sudden health deterioration and subsequent death of the inmate. The incident raises concerns about the medical facilities and care provided to prisoners.
