Minister Muthusamy Inspects Damaged Banana Plantations Near Pollachi, Assures Compensation

Housing Minister Muthusamy visited the Odayakulam area near Pollachi to assess banana plantations damaged by recent storms, assuring prompt compensation and action.

Coimbatore: The areas surrounding Pollachi and the adjacent Anaimalai and Odayakulam townships have experienced severe weather over the last few days, including strong storm winds and heavy rains.

Two days ago, these conditions led to approximately one crore rupees worth of damage to banana plantations, causing distress among local farmers.

Taking immediate action, Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister ordered an inspection of the affected areas.

Following this directive, Housing Minister Muthusamy today visited the Odayakulam area to conduct a detailed evaluation of the affected banana plantations.

Speaking to journalists, Minister Muthusamy stated, "The extents of damage to banana trees are significant in the Odaikulam sector. The Agriculture Department's officials have completed an initial survey and submitted a report to the District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati. Following further assessment, necessary relief will be distributed to the impacted farmers swiftly."

Moreover, Muthusamy highlighted issues in obtaining insurance for banana crops and committed to addressing these with the responsible authorities to facilitate farmers in securing insurance. He also inspected the Anaimalai River, which is currently facing issues due to water hyacinth invasion and wastewater contamination. Measures are set to be taken to find a permanent solution to prevent pollution of the river.

Accompanying the minister were District Secretary Thalapathi Murugesan, Anaimalai Township Head Kalaichevvi, and other union secretaries Deva Senapathi and Yuvaraj, along with board member Shantalimga Kumar.
