New Regulations Announced to Curb Traffic Chaos During VIP Visits at Coimbatore Airport

Days after Simplicity highlighted passenger complaints over recurring traffic congestion and inconvenience during political leader visits to Coimbatore Airport, the district administration, city police, and airport authorities have jointly introduced measures to regulate vehicle movement and restrict large welcome gatherings.

Coimbatore: In a swift response to growing passenger concerns over recurring traffic snarls at Coimbatore Airport during political leader visits, authorities have unveiled a set of measures to regulate crowds, manage vehicle movement, and improve passenger convenience.

The move comes days after SimpliCity highlighted complaints from travellers, who said large welcome gatherings and haphazardly parked vehicles were routinely disrupting access to the airport and causing significant inconvenience.

In response, officials from the district administration, city police and the Airports Authority of India held a joint review meeting to discuss the recurring problem of crowding and vehicular congestion during VIP arrivals. The meeting focused on addressing passenger concerns over delays, traffic snarls and difficulties in accessing the airport.

As part of the new measures, authorities have clarified that, apart from the VIP’s official vehicle, no other vehicles will be permitted to park near the airport entrance. Vehicles belonging to supporters, party cadres and other accompanying visitors will be required to use designated parking facilities within the airport campus.

Authorities have also announced restrictions on welcome gatherings, celebrations and other crowd-forming activities inside the airport premises. The measures are intended to prevent obstruction to passenger movement and ensure that airport operations remain unaffected during VIP visits.

Officials stated that the objective of the new guidelines is to strike a balance between security and protocol requirements for visiting dignitaries while safeguarding the convenience and safety of regular passengers.

Passengers have largely welcomed the swift response from the authorities, describing it as a positive step towards resolving a long-standing concern. Many, however, expressed hope that the measures would be implemented consistently and enforced uniformly rather than remaining a temporary arrangement.

Travellers noted that the effectiveness of the initiative would depend on sustained enforcement and close coordination among all agencies involved. They added that if implemented in letter and spirit, the measures could significantly reduce the recurring traffic chaos witnessed during VIP visits and improve the overall travel experience at Coimbatore Airport.
