Sulur Minor Girl Case: Accused Produced Before POCSO Court to Receive Charge Sheet Copies

The accused, who are currently in judicial custody, were produced before the court on Thursday amid tight security arrangements, following which the Special POCSO Court, in accordance with the prescribed legal procedure, handed over copies of the charge sheet and other relevant documents to them.


Coimbatore: Karthik and Mohanrajthe two men arrested in connection with the sexual assault and murder of a 10-year-old girl near Sulur were produced before the Special POCSO Court in Coimbatore on Thursday,as part of the ongoing trial proceedings.



The accused, who are currently in judicial custody, were produced before the court on Thursday amid tight security arrangements for the furnishing of copies of the charge sheet filed by the investigating officers a day earlier.



In accordance with the prescribed legal procedure, the Special POCSO Court handed over copies of the charge sheet and other relevant documents to the accused.

The Coimbatore District Police on Wednesday filed the charge sheet against the two men arrested in connection with the abduction, sexual assault and murder of a 10-year-old girl near Sulur on May 21.

The 819-page charge sheet, comprising 215 documents and listing 104 prosecution witnesses, had been submitted before the Special Court for the trial of cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on June 9.

The investigation included the collection of scientific evidence, witness statements, medical reports and other materials related to the incident.

With the procedural formalities relating to the supply of documents now completed, the court is expected to take up the matter for further proceedings on the next date of hearing.
