Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) organised a three-day Faculty Development Programme titled “Beyond the Board to Academic Excellence”, focusing on innovative teaching methods, emerging technologies, quality assurance and research practices for agricultural scientists.
Coimbatore: With higher education and agricultural research rapidly evolving through technology and new learning methods, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) organised a three-day Faculty Development Programme to help its faculty adopt innovative approaches to teaching, research and academic practices.
Titled “Beyond the Board to Academic Excellence,” the programme was organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the Directorate of Planning and Monitoring, TNAU. It focused on strengthening the professional competencies of faculty members and equipping them with approaches suited to the changing higher education landscape.
In his presidential address, Dr. M. Raveendran, Registrar and Acting Vice-Chancellor of TNAU, highlighted the role of teachers in shaping students’ academic growth, values, skills and careers. He called for greater adoption of innovative teaching methodologies and modern learning approaches to prepare students for global standards and emerging opportunities.
Dr. M.R. Srinivasan, Special Officer (Publications), TNAU, stressed the need to move beyond conventional classroom, blackboard and PowerPoint-based teaching. He also highlighted the importance of clear standard operating procedures for research and transparent evaluation rubrics, while emphasising honest, reproducible and traceable research as the basis of quality scholarship.
The programme featured expert sessions on artificial intelligence and innovative pedagogy, academic quality assurance, smart technologies in agricultural extension, cyber security and data privacy, educational applications, virtual and augmented reality, digital teaching, technology impact assessment and game-based learning.
Sessions also covered strategies for preparing high-value research proposals, publishing in Q1 scientific journals, understanding the Indian education system, emotional intelligence and academic leadership.
Dr. S. UmeshKanna, Professor (Forestry) and Training Coordinator, welcomed the gathering, while Dr. T. Samsai, Professor (ARM), delivered the vote of thanks.
