Water levels at Aliyar, Parambikkulam, and Sholayar dams in Coimbatore district as of July 2nd have been released. Reduced rainfall has decreased inflow to Aliyar dam. Sholayar dam water level continues to rise steadily with significant inflow.

Coimbatore: Water Resources Department officials have released details regarding the water levels of major dams in Coimbatore district as of July 2nd. The inflow and outflow figures for the three major dams show varying conditions across the district.

Aliyar dam, located near Anaimalai, has a total capacity of 120 feet. The current water level stands at 55.6 feet, fed by inflow from the catchment areas. The dam is receiving an inflow of 117 cubic feet per second. However, 350 cubic feet per second is being discharged from the dam. Due to reduced rainfall, the inflow to the dam has been continuously decreasing.

Parambikkulam dam, situated near Pollachi, has a total capacity of 72 feet. The current water level has reached 15.22 feet of its total capacity. The dam is recording an inflow of 200 cubic feet per second. Simultaneously, 435 cubic feet per second is being discharged. The water level in this dam has been continuously rising due to the impact of the southwest monsoon. This development has brought joy to farmers in the region.

Sholayar dam, located near Valparai, is the largest reservoir with a capacity of 160 feet. The current water level has reached 76.18 feet. Notably, Sholayar dam is receiving an inflow of 709 cubic feet per second. Only 5 cubic feet per second is being discharged from the dam. Water Resources Department officials have stated that due to the high inflow, the water level in this dam continues to rise favorably.

Comparing the status of the three dams, it is noteworthy that Solayar dam has the highest inflow and the lowest discharge. This reflects the continued benefit of the southwest monsoon in the region.
