Coimbatore City Police Seize 12,651 Tapentadol Tablets, 4.8 kg Ganja; Seven Arrested

Coimbatore City Police arrested seven persons in three separate anti-narcotics operations across the city, seizing 4.8 kg of ganja, 12,651 Tapentadol tablets, cash and two motorcycles. All the accused have been remanded to judicial custody.


Coimbatore: Coimbatore City Police arrested seven persons in three separate anti-narcotics operations across the city and seized 4.8 kg of ganja, 12,651 Tapentadol tablets, cash and two motorcycles.

In the first case, personnel from the Saibaba Colony Police Station arrested Kuldev Mukhiya (37), a native of Bihar residing on Konar Street in Kovilmedu, near Thilagar Street, on Wednesday. Police allegedly recovered 1.1 kg of ganja and ₹4,500 in cash from his possession. A case was registered under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the accused was remanded to judicial custody.

In another operation, Kuniyamuthur Police arrested five persons near the rear entrance of the Kovaipudur Bus Terminus. The accused were identified as Rahul (28), Amir Prakash (27), Mohammad Anas (31), John Joseph (34) and Balaji (28). Police seized 2.5 kg of ganja, 12,600 Tapentadol tablets, ₹22,000 in cash, 30 polythene covers and two motorcycles allegedly used for trafficking narcotic substances. All five accused were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.

In the third case, Karumbukadai Police arrested Kaja Hussain (26) and Abbas alias Jack (30) near Jalagandeshwarar Temple on Puttuvikki Road. Police seized 1.2 kg of ganja and 51 Tapentadol tablets from their possession. Both were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.

Police said further investigation is under way in all three cases to ascertain the source of the narcotic substances and identify any additional persons involved in the network.
