Vadavalli police arrested a 31-year-old man for allegedly threatening a youth at knifepoint, robbing him of ₹500 and damaging two motorcycles near Bharathiar University in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: A31-year-old man was remanded to judicial custody for allegedly threatening a youth at knifepoint, robbing him of ₹500 and damaging two motorcycles near Bharathiar University in Coimbatore.
The complainant, Ansath (24), a resident of Vinayagar Koil Street in Vadavalli, was walking with his friend on Mahaliyamman Koil Street near Bharathiar University on the night of September 11 when the incident occurred, police said.
The accused, identified as Vignesh Kumar (31), allegedly approached the two in an intoxicated condition and threatened Ansath with a knife while demanding money.
Fearing for his safety, Ansath allegedly handed over ₹500 to him. Police said that even after receiving the money, Vignesh Kumar allegedly damaged two motorcycles belonging to Ansath’s friend that were parked nearby before fleeing the scene.
Based on Ansath’s complaint, Vadavalli police registered a case and launched a search for the accused. Vignesh Kumar was subsequently arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
