Water Levels Rise in Coimbatore District Dams Due to Southwest Monsoon

Water levels in Coimbatore district's major dams including Parambikulam, Sholayar and Aliyar are gradually rising due to southwest monsoon rainfall. Parambikulam dam has recorded significant inflow bringing joy to farmers. Water Resources Department officials are continuously monitoring the situation and managing water releases accordingly.


Coimbatore: Farmers in Coimbatore district are rejoicing as water levels in major dams continue to rise steadily due to the impact of the southwest monsoon. As of July 10, the Water Resources Department officials have released details about the water levels in the district's key dams - Parambikulam, Sholayar and Aliyar.

The Aliyar dam located near Anaimalai has a total capacity of 120 feet. With inflow from catchment areas, the dam's current water level has reached 54.4 feet. While the dam is receiving an inflow of 213 cusecs, water is being released at 150 cusecs. However, officials have stated that the inflow to the dam is gradually decreasing due to reduced rainfall.

The Parambikulam dam near Pollachi has a total capacity of 72 feet. Currently, the dam's water level has reached 17.08 feet. Significantly, the dam is recording an inflow of 1,243 cusecs while 620 cusecs is being released. Farmers are delighted as the dam's water level continues to rise due to the continuous impact of the southwest monsoon.

The Sholayar dam located near Valparai has a total capacity of 160 feet. According to current status, the dam's water level has reached 83.79 feet. The Sholayar dam is receiving an inflow of 853 cusecs while 1,366 cusecs is being released. Water Resources Department officials have stated that the dam's water level continues to rise.

As the southwest monsoon continues, water inflow to the district's dams is increasing. This has brought joy to farmers who are hopeful of receiving adequate water for agricultural activities. Water Resources Department officials are continuously monitoring the water levels in the dams and undertaking water release operations as needed.
