Southern Railway has announced service changes for the Tiruchchirappalli–Palakkad Town Express and four other trains—Tiruchchirappalli–Erode Passenger, Erode–Sengottai Express, Erode–Tiruchchirappalli Passenger and Sengottai–Erode Express—on July 14 due to track renewal works at Karur.
Coimbatore: Southern Railway has announced temporary changes to the services of five trains on July 14, 2026, to facilitate track renewal and maintenance works at Karur Railway Yard.
Among the affected services, Train No. 16843 Tiruchchirappalli–Palakkad Town Express, which passes through Erode, Tiruppur, Coimbatore and terminates at Palakkad Town, will originate from Karur Junction at 2.20 p.m. instead of Tiruchchirappalli. As a result, the train will not operate between Tiruchchirappalli and Karur on the day but will continue its onward journey from Karur via Erode, Tiruppur, Coimbatore and Palakkad Town.
Train No. 56809 Tiruchchirappalli–Erode Passenger will be short-terminated at Karur Junction, with services between Karur and Erode cancelled for the day.
Similarly, Train No. 16845 Erode–Sengottai Express will originate from Karur Junction instead of Erode, while the Erode–Karur section will remain cancelled.
Train No. 56106 Erode–Tiruchchirappalli Passenger will be short-terminated at Murthipalayam Railway Station and will not operate up to Tiruchchirappalli.
Meanwhile, Train No. 16846 Sengottai–Erode Express will be short-terminated at Karur Railway Station. After completion of the maintenance works, it will operate as an unreserved special train from Karur to Erode with the same stoppages as the regular service.
Southern Railway has advised passengers travelling on these services to take note of the temporary changes and plan their journeys accordingly.
