A 21-year-old final-year B.Tech student from the Nilgiris, studying at PPG Institutions in Coimbatore, was found dead in her hostel room. Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.

Coimbatore:
A 21-year-old student pursuing her final-year B.Tech degree at a private engineering college in Coimbatore was found dead in her hostel room on Monday, prompting an investigation by the Kovilpalayam Police.
The deceased has been identified as Mahalakshmi (21), daughter of Raghu, a farmer from Nanjanad in the Nilgiris district. According to police sources, she was pursuing her final-year B.Tech in Information Technology at PPG Institute of Technology, Coimbatore, and was staying at the college’s Tech Campus women’s hostel.
The incident is believed to have occurred between 11.20 a.m. and 12.30 p.m., when the student was alone in her hostel room, police sources said.
As the room remained locked for an unusually long time, fellow students and hostel staff grew suspicious. On looking through the window, they found her hanging inside the room and immediately alerted the police.
Police rushed to the hostel, recovered the body and informed her parents. The body was later sent to the ESI Government Hospital in Singanallur for post-mortem examination.
Kovilpalayam Police have registered a case and are investigating all possible angles to ascertain the circumstances that led to her death. The exact cause of death will be determined based on the post-mortem examination and the outcome of the investigation.
The incident comes in the wake of the recent student death reported at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) hostel in Coimbatore, raising concerns among students and parents.
