Two-wheeler riders were sensitised to the importance of wearing helmets and how protective headgear can significantly reduce the risk of fatal injuries. Students from various colleges and volunteers of the NGO Uyir participated in the road safety awareness drive.

Coimbatore:

As part of its ongoing road safety initiatives, the Coimbatore City Traffic Police conducted a public awareness campaign near the Vadavalli Roundana on Saturday, urging motorists to wear helmets, follow traffic regulations and render timely assistance to road accident victims.

The awareness programme was organised on the instructions of Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Dr N. Kannan and under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Maheswaran and Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajkumar. Students from a private college and volunteers from the Uyir organisation took part in the campaign.

The drive was spearheaded by Traffic Inspector Periyasamy and Sub-Inspector Mahendran. During the programme, traffic personnel stopped two-wheeler riders travelling without helmets and educated them on the life-saving benefits of protective headgear. They also explained the importance of complying with traffic rules to reduce road accidents and improve road safety.

In addition, a dedicated awareness session was conducted for taxi and autorickshaw drivers on the role of bystanders and motorists in responding to road accidents. The participants were sensitised to the importance of providing immediate assistance to accident victims and ensuring that emergency services are alerted without delay.
