Christian association extends support to AIADMK

The Progressive Union for Christian People (PUCP), a newly formed association of a section of Christians in the Coimbatore region, today extended its support to the ruling AIADMK in the coming Assembly elections, claiming that it was the only party which protected the needs and rights of the minority community.

Talking to reporters, PUCP's founder president J. Sundar said that AIADMK was instrumental in providing Rs.20,000 subsidy to the community for the pilgrimage to Jerusalem. He added that the AIADMK had strongly supported the stand that concessions and benefits should not be denied to those Dalits who converted to Christianity.

Regarding the increasing incidents of attacks on Christian places of worship, he said that the government had arrested and taken action against the culprits, which no other governments did during their rule.

He also added that the AIADMK government, if voted back to power, will also help addressing issues like graveyard maintenance.
