Audio of Pokkiri Raja Gets a Glitzy Launch in Coimbatore

Though the posters of the audio launch of Ramprakash Rayappa’s Pokkiri Raja were put up only a couple of days before the event, a huge crowd showed up at the venue in Coimbatore, fighting the bouncers to meet the stars of the film on Sunday.

Among the attendees were director Ramprakash Rayappa, whose debut Tamizhukku En Ondrai Azhuthavum (2014), took the box office by storm, music director D Imman, actors Jeeva, Sibiraj, Manobala, Bobby Simha, Nandha, Vimal and Nanditha along with producers Cosmos Shiva and P T Selva Kumar and film technicians. Director S A Chandrasekhar, his wife Shobha Chandrasekhar, and actor Satyaraj were the chief guests.

Though the crowd assembled early to catch a glimpse of the stars and dance to the tunes of Imman, they had to wait. First up on stage was Manobala to talk about the Jeeva-Hansika-Sibiraj starrer. “It was great fun working in this movie with Jeeva and Sibiraj. I have been a part of most of Hansika’s films,” he said adding that he wishes to take forward the legacy of late actor Manivannan.

Imman crooned his recent hit Ennama Ippadi Pandreengale Ma and also a track, Atthu Utta, from Pokkiri Raja, for which Jeeva and Sibiraj broke into an impromptu jig. “Looking at the response, I will soon do a full-fledged concert here,” said Imman.

After Naaigal Jaakirathai (2014), Sibiraj is entering into the zone of an anti-hero in Pokkiri Raja. “I liked the script but was a bit nervous to play the role of an anti-hero. I went to appa to discuss the role and he said, ‘If you don’t do it, I will’. It was fun shooting for the film,” said Sibiraj. “Like how Kamal Hassan wanted to enhance appa’s role in his films, Jeeva saw to it that my character was enhanced in this film.”

Talking about the film, Jeeva said, “When Ramu came to narrate the script, I laughed throughout and was on board. This is a fun, entertaining film.” Actor Satyaraj, who launched the audio, said that this film will be a turning point for his son. “His character’s name in the film is ‘Cooling Glass Guna’. Sometimes, a character sticks with an actor. Like how Ammavasai from Ammaidi Padai (1994) and Kattappa from Baahubali (2015) will be remembered, Sibi’s character in this film also be remembered ,” he said.

The film has a Coimbatore connect. The director, Ramprakash, belongs to the city and so does the dialogue writer, Giri. During the event, the videos of two songs - Atthu Utta and Bubbly were launched as well.
