Coimbatore District Weavers thank Chief Minister for electricity subsidy

The 100 units of free electricity scheme announced by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalitha has been highly beneficial to the people of TN, especially for the people in low-income groups and for small and micro businesses. The scheme was the first document signed on assuming office for the second consecutive term, in May 2016.

In the district of Coimbatore, there are totally 9,77,468 consumers and Rs.11.54 Crores subsidy has been borne by the Government towards subsidy for the people in the 100 units free electricity scheme. 

The Weavers are additionally provided with 100 more units, totally 200 units of free electricity. Reports indicate, nearly 6917 weavers have been benefited through this scheme with a subsidy of Rs. 650/- per weaver and a total of 45 lakhs as subsidy.

The electricity subsidy for Power loom Weavers have been increased to 750 units from 500 units, presently 15,460 weavers receive a subsidy of Rs.4712.50/-,per person and totally 413.41 lakhs has been given as subsidy.  

Radha, a daily wage woman has stated that the scheme has been a bliss to them as they were unable to pay electricity bill even a couple of months time. 'We used electricity just for an hour for the childrens' to study and put if off rest of the time and now after CM's 100 units free electricity city scheme we are able to use power for longer hours and childrens are able to spend more hours to study and do home works'

Ambika, a Weaver from Ondipudur, Coimbatore reported that 'After Agriculture, weaving is the traditional and prime profession in the state of Tamilnadu. Weaving is my ancestral profession and am the lone bread-winner for the family. The  200 units of free electricity subsidy scheme announced by the CM has enabled us to sustain more margins and reduce the production cost. Such laudable schemes will help us to revive and improve our livelihood'

The Weavers in the district of Coimbatore thanked the Chief Minister for such much-needed schemes devised wholesomely to uplift their lives and motivate them towards practicing their ancestral profession.
