The members of the 'Bharath Sena' organisation had petitioned to the Deputy Commissioner, S. Lakshmi to increase the number of idol installation sites in Variety Hall Road, Sullivan Street, Chetty Street and Town hall areas during Vinayagar Chathruthi.
The Deputy Commissioner denied their plea and advised them to carry on with the approved sites and celebrate the festival with peace and happiness. However, the activists claimed that inspite of intact security arrangements, their plea has been denied.
