TMMK activists fight to evoke the ban on Camel Slaughter

On August 18th 2016, the Madras high court issued an interim order to ban camel slaughter in Tamil Nadu.

The first bench of Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice R Mahadevan passed the interim order to ban slaughtering of Camels, mainly practiced by the Muslims, during Bakrid celebrations. This order was passed for the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Arun Prasanna, Founder of People For Cattle In India – PFCI.

Since, the interim order the people from the muslim community have been condemning the act as a restriction posed on them in practicing their religious faiths and beliefs.

Today, hundreds of activists of the 'Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam' (TMMK) demonstrated a protest at the Red Cross Society to evoke the ban on camel slaughter during Bakrid Celebrations, which falls on Sep 13th 2016. The protest was led by their State Secretary, of the 'Manidhaneya Makkal Katchi' (MMK). The protestors alleged that the BJP Government has been categorically targeting the minority castes and hindering them in following their religious faiths and practices. Hence, they urged that the High Court's interim order should be evoked with immediate effect and that the Central Government should respect the interest and practices of the Minority communities also.
