Madukkarai lorry owners appeal collector to secure their livelihood

The members of the Madukkarai lorry owners have petitioned the district collector on the pressing issues faced by them, while commuting between Tamil Nadu and Kerala borders.

The petitioners stated that close to 300 lorry drivers of their association have been engaged in transporting goods between Tamil Nadu and Kerala through the Walayar and Velanthavalam routes. The delay in the Walayar check posts has adversely affecting the livelihood of the lorry owners, as they had to wait for 2-3 days at the junction for getting clearance from the officials. The amount of fuel wastage and the delay in transportation time has been adversely affecting our livelihood. Hence, to avoid the waiting period they have requested the concerned officials to allow lorries through the Velanthavalam route. But presently, the Kerala PWD department have installed a board indicating ‘No access to multi-axle vehicles' on the Velanthavalam bridge.

Hence, they have petitioned the district collector, T.N. Hariharan to release the ban posed by the PWD department and secure their livelihood.
