Man killed as building collapses

A construction worker was killed and another injured when a portion of a new building where they were at work collapsed on them on Wednesday.

According to the Sirumugai police, the workers, D. Nagaraj (35) and M. Somasundaram (37), were standing on a wooden ladder at a height of about 10 feet and working when the incident took place in the afternoon.

Nagaraj died on way to the hospital and Somasundaram was hospitalised. A case was registered against the building engineer and contractor under Sections 288 (negligent conduct with respect to pulling down or repairing buildings), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304(A) (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code for failing to ensure safety of the workers.
