Steps leading to masterminding Dalit youth killing

An embarrassing situation during a marriage function made Chinnasamy take the extreme decision to eliminate his daughter Kausalya, who had married a Dalit youth Shankar.

Already put to shame by the marriage, the incident at the function totally upset him and he told his close relatives that he would kill the couple at any given opportunity. This was confessed by one of the five arrested persons during interrogation.

Though the family made an attempt to bring Kausalya back home by offering a hefty sum to Shankar, it was not successful.  Shankar rejected the offer and preferred to live with his wife, a senior police official, on conditions of anonymity, said.

As per the instructions, the gang, engaged by Chinnasamy, was watching the movements of the couple for the last few days and the D-day came on Sunday last.

Chinnasamy had reportedly paid Rs. 50,000 as advance for the attack, sources said.  Approximately Rs. 40,000 was recovered from one of the gang members.

Police has plans to seek the custody of Chinnasamy, who had surrendered some time after the incident, they said.
